Modi attacks Akhilesh for betraying Mulayam

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav should not have joined hands with a party (Congress) which was “behind” an attack on SP patron Mulayam Singh Yadav, 33 years ago.

Addressing an election rally at Kannauj, the Lok Sabha constituency of Akhilesh’s wife Dimple Yadav, Modi said the Congress could not be trusted and might ditch the SP president after the elections.“Mulayam came under attack here (Kannauj) on March 4, 1984... he was fired at... it was an attempt to murder. Chaudhary Charan Singh and Atal Bihari Vajpayee had launched an agitation over this issue,” Modi said.

“Akhilesh should remember that the Congress was behind the attack... for power, you (Akhilesh) chose to join hands with those who had attacked your father... are there sons like that? Has politics stooped to such



levels? Such people should not be forgiven,” Modi said.

“Congress leaders did not say a word against Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati in their joint press conference with Akhilesh, who did criticise Mayawati,” he added.Modi said an “inexperienced” Akhilesh was trapped by the Congress. 

“A three-legged race is on in Uttar Pradesh. The Congress has one leg tied to SP and another to BSP. Akhilesh does not realise this... he is inexperienced... Mulayam knew this,” the prime minister said.Modi likened the Congress-SP alliance to a Bollywood movie. 

“In films, we see two men fighting with each other till the interval and after that they become friends. This is what has happened in UP,” he said, in an apparent reference to the bonhomie between Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh.
