New Delhi, March 31: Senior India bowler Ravichandran Ashwin, who had a fantastic Test season, is likely to give the upcoming tenth edition of the Indian Premier League a miss.
Ashwin's Tamil Nadu partner Murali Vijay, another India cricketer, may not play any game for his IPL franchise Kings XI Punjab to recuperate from the injuries he sustained during the long and gruelling Test season. (RPS: Full squad)
Vijay will take time off to heal his shoulder, which forced him to sit out of the Bangalore Test against Australia.
As per reports, Ashwin is suffering from sports hernia and he underwent scans in Mumbai after the final Test of the
Border-Gavaskar Trophy concluded in Dharamsala.
Ashwin's absence will be badly missed by Rising Pune Supergiants. South Africa spinner Imran Tahir, who was bought after Mitchell Marsh was ruled out, will now be heading spin department along with Australian Adam Zampa.
In the last year's IPL, Vijay took over the captaincy from David Miller for the Kings XI Punjab. He was removed as captain before the start of IPL 2017 and was replaced by Glenn Maxwell.
Earlier in the day, another India regular KL Rahul was also ruled out of the IPL 2017. The Royal Challengers Bangalore batsman will be heading for London to get a surgery of his left shoulder.
