The 23rd National Para Athletics Championship commenced at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai yesterday and will run until February 20. The event has attracted 1,476 para-athletes from across India, competing in 155 events under 30 teams, making it one of the largest para-athletics gatherings in the country. 

Some of the top athletes taking part include Sumit Antil in javelin throw, Manoj Sabapathy in wheelchair racing, Manoj Singaraj in the shot put, Mariyappan Thangavelu in the high jump,



Muthu Raja in the shot put, Hokato Sema in the shot put, Navdeep Singh in javelin throw, and Yogesh Kathuniya in the discus.

The championship is being organised by the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI), led by Devendra Jhajharia, and the Tamil Nadu Paralympic Sports Association (TNPSA), headed by Chandrasekar Rajan. This championship highlights the talent and resilience of para-athletes and aims to promote inclusivity and excellence in Indian sports.
