Shuttler Anmol Kharb of Haryana continued her impressive run to win gold in women’s singles, while Tamil Nadu’s K. Satish Kumar claimed the men’s singles as well as the doubles title at the 38th National Games at Dehradun yesterday. Kharb defeated top seed Anupama Upadhyaya in straight games 21-16, 22-20 in the women’s singles final. In the men’s singles final, Satish Kumar defeated Suryaksh Rawat 21-17, 21-17 to claim gold in men’s singles.

In men’s doubles, Karnataka’s Nithin HV and Prakash Raj S beat Vaibhav and Ashith Surya 21-16, 21-14 for gold. Shikha Gautam and Ashwini Bhat secured the women’s doubles title, defeating Angel Punera and Anya Bisht 21-11, 21-13.

In badminton, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu dominated the matches. In the mixed doubles final, Tamil Nadu clinched the gold medal by defeating Maharashtra. In the men’s singles category, Tamil Nadu’s Satish Kumar triumphed over Uttarakhand’s Suryaksh Rawat in a closely contested match. Meanwhile, in the women’s singles final, Haryana’s Anmol Kharab beats Delhi’s Anupama Upadhyay to secure the gold. In the women’s doubles category, Karnataka’s team delivered an impressive performance to claim the gold medal, while Uttarakhand settled for silver. The bronze medal was shared by teams from Uttarakhand and Tamil Nadu. Karnataka continued its dominance in the men’s doubles category, winning both gold and silver. With this, all five badminton events in the National Games have now concluded.

Uttarakhand’s Reena Sen delivered a stellar performance. Competing in the canoe slalom event at Phoolchatti, Rishikesh, she clinched the gold medal in the women’s open singles category, bringing pride to Uttarakhand.

In the 3×3 basketball competition, Telangana’s women’s team put up a strong display to win the gold medal, while Kerala secured silver and Madhya Pradesh took home the bronze. In the men’s category, Madhya Pradesh emerged victorious, claiming the gold, with Kerala securing silver and Tamil Nadu winning bronze.

Water polo also saw intense competition. In the men’s category, the Services team delivered an outstanding performance to win gold, while Maharashtra took silver and Kerala had to settle for bronze. In the women’s category, Kerala claimed the gold medal, Maharashtra secured silver, and West Bengal took bronze.

At the Shivalik Velodrome in Rudrapur, track cycling events witnessed record-breaking performances and new champions. In the women’s individual pursuit (3 km), Odisha’s Swasti Singh set a new national record while securing the gold medal. In the men’s 4 km pursuit, Services’ Dinesh Kumar set a new record and took the gold. In the women’s time trial (500m), Celestina from Andaman and Nicobar claimed the gold, while the Andaman and Nicobar’s team also secured gold in the men’s sprint (three laps).

Looking at the medal tally, Karnataka leads with 28 gold medals, followed by Services in second place with 21 golds.
