On September 15, 2023, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) made a significant announcement regarding the Indian squad for the upcoming 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. The Federation confirmed that Sandesh Jhingan, a seasoned player and crucial defender for the Indian team, will be part of the squad.
In addition to Jhingan, the AIFF has also included two more players in the team for the Games - Chinglensana Singh and Lalchungnunga. This decision is expected to bolster the strength of the Indian squad at the Asian Games.
AIFF President Mr. Kalyan Chaubey said that it was a positive development to see Jhingan join Sunil Chhetri with the squad as they will be manning the key positions in attack and defence.
"It is indeed a positive development on the eve of the Asian Games as the reliable pair of Sunil
Chhetri and Sandesh Jhingan will be manning two key positions in the Indian attack and defence, respectively, for the continental games. We are further happy that some more experienced footballers are there in the squad to strengthen our campaign," said Chaubey in an official statement.
