New York: Rising British sensation Emma Raducanu beat Leylah Fernandez of Canada to win Women’s Singles title at US Open Tennis. The 18-year-old Emma Raducanu defeated her Canadian opponent in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 in the summit clash held at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York on Sunday. She has become the first British woman to win the title in 53 years. Raducanu has also
become the first British woman in 44 years to win a Grand Slam singles title.
Britain’s Queen Elizabeth congratulated Raducanu on her success and said it is a testament to her hard work and dedication.
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said Raducanu showed extraordinary skill in the game.
