Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu returned to the top 5 in badminton world rankings for women's singles shuttlers for the first time in more than 3 years. Sindhu leapfrogged Rio Olympics gold medalist Carolina Marin to move to the 5th spot in the BWF Rankings, updated on Tuesday, October 25.
Before the latest update, PV Sindhu was in the top 5 of the women's singles charts in September 2019. Sindhu has not played on the tour since the Commonwealth Games in August. The Indian shuttler, who won Gold in the women's singles category at the Games, missed the World Championships in Tokyo due to an injury.
Sindhu has
not traveled for the European leg of the world tour even as her compatriot Saina Nehwal is leading the charge in women's singles.
Notably, Sindhu was recently spotted returning to training with her South Korean coach Park Tae Sang. Sindhu looked in good spirts as Park welcomed the star shuttler "back to your home".
Meanwhile, HS Prannoy jumped a spot to No. 12 in the latest BWF rankings for men's singles shuttlers. Prannoy, who is No. 1 in the rankings for the World Tour Finals, is one spot behind Kidambi Srikanth.
Lakshya Sen remains to be India's top-ranked men's singles shuttler at No.8.
