Lionel Messi will miss Paris Saint-Germains Champions League game against Benfica due to injury reported the Athletic on Monday, 10 October. Messi was earlier ruled out of the Ligue 1 game against Reims on Sunday, 9 October. PSG struggled for rhythm without the services of Messi, and were held to a 0-0 draw after defender Sergio Ramos saw a red card in the 41st minute of the game.
The forward was diagnosed with a
calf issue after PSG's first fixture against Benfica in the Champions League, where he scored a stunning curler to give PSG the lead in 22nd minute. Messi complained about pain late in the game and was subsequently substituted by coach Christophe Galtier.
Messi is not the only player injured in the team as Presnel Kimpembe, Nuno Mendes and Renato Sanchez are also set to remain unavailable over their respective issues.
