As many as 3 matches of former champions Pakistan and 2 matches of 2-time champions India at the 2023 World Cup have been rescheduled due to logistical issues, the International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed on Wednesday, August 9. The much-awaited revised fixtures were confirmed with the global body changing the dates of as many as 9 matches. The World Cup will get underway on October 5 and the final will be played on November 19.
The date change of the marquee clash between India and Pakistan has led to the change in dates of 5 other fixtures. India vs Pakistan clash has been moved from October 15 to October 14 due to the Hindu festival of Navratri which clashed with the original
date. Ahmedabad police had raised concerns about security arrangements for the marquee clash, the biggest in the league stage of the tournament.
The original date, October 15, coincides with the start of the Hindu festival Navaratri. The combination of the high-profile cricket match and the festive celebrations could potentially overstretch the capacity of the local authorities to manage the event effectively.
