New Zealand on Tuesday registered a 28-run victory (via D/L method) in over Bangladesh in Napier to take an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
Drama ensued in Napier when Bangladesh began their run chase even before the target revision as rain reduced the match to 16 overs in the 2nd innings.
There seemed to be no official word at the moment on the target for the chase. According to sources, Bangladesh were initially informed that they needed to score 148 in 16 overs.
But after 9 balls were bowled, there was a pause in play with the umpires waiting for a confirmation with the match officials, and the confirmation from the officials said that the target was 171 runs in 16 overs.
The hosts managed to restrict Bangladesh to 142 for 7 in 16 overs with Tim Southee, Hamish Bennett and Adam Milne
grabbing a couple of wickets each.
Soumya Sarkar (51) and Mohammad Naim (38) played the only two knocks of significance while the rest failed to make any sizeable contributions leading to their 5th defeat on the tour in as many games.
Glenn Phillips and Daryl Mitchell starred with the bat for the home team as they posted 173 for 5 on the board after being put into bat first.
Phillips top-scored with 58 not out while Mitchell made a quickfire 34 off 16 balls before play was stopped due to rain. Umpires decided to stop the first innings at 17.5 overs due to the rain interruption.
The duo shared an unbroken 62-run stand to help the team recover to 173 for 5 after they were reduced to 111 for 5 in 13.4 overs. Mahedi Hasan took 2 wickets while Shoriful Islam, Taskin Ahmed and Mohammad Saifuddin picked one each.
