2nd Test match: New Zealand registers thrilling one run win against England

Wellington: New Zealand bowler Neil Wagner bagged a four-wicket haul, including the decisive wicket of James Anderson, to power his team to a series-levelling win over England in the second Test at the Basin Reserve in Wellington.

Chasing a target of 258, England resumed play on Day 5 at 48 for 1 and were bowled out for 256. With England needing two runs to win, Wagner dramatically dismissed James Anderson, sparking massive Kiwi celebrations.

 

Earlier, record-breaker Kane Williamson hit a superb century on Monday to steer New Zealand to 483 all out in their second innings and set England a victory target of 258 runs to



win the second Test.

Former New Zealand captain Williamson hit 132 and Tom Blundell was the last man out for 90 as the hosts fought back after being asked to follow on.

Ben Stokes made that decision of enforcing the follow-on after taking 226-run first innings lead, but lost control of the game as the Black Caps batted with brilliant resolve to take things deep into day five.

England became just the fourth team in Test history to lose after enforcing the follow-on. The only other previous one-run victory was by the West Indies against Australia in Adelaide in 1993.
