Smriti Mandhana’s ninth ODI hundred couldn’t suffice as India slumped to a 0-3 defeat in the ODI series against Australia. On Wednesday, December 11, Harmanpreet Kaur and Co. lost by 83 runs in the third and final game at the WACA in Perth. For the hosts, Annabel Sutherland put in an all-round show to guide them through to a clinical victory.
Sutherland scored 110 runs off 95 balls with nine fours and four sixes, after which she got the all-important wicket of Harmanpreet. All-rounder Ash Gardner also played a major role after she scored 50 and picked up a five-wicket haul to finish with figures of 10-1-30-5.
After being asked to bat first, Australia were reduced to 78 for four in 16.1 overs. Arundhati
Reddy made the early inroads to put the home team under pressure. From there on, Sutherland and Gardner joined hands to build a crucial partnership of 94 runs for the fifth wicket.
After Gardner got out to Deepti Sharma, Sutherland paired up with skipper Tahlia McGrath to stitch up an important 122-run partnership for the sixth wicket. Sutherland carried on and played until the very end. She brought up her fifty off 59 balls after which she stepped on the gas to rack up a hundred off 93 deliveries.
Barring Reddy, none of the Indian bowlers could make a mark. Deepti did get one wicket, but leaked 77 runs off her nine overs. Renuka Singh, Saima Thakor, Titas Sadhu and Minnu Mani could not make a breakthrough either.
