Amit Mishra climbed to No.3 in the all-time list of wicket-takers in the Indian Premier League when he dismissed Royal Challengers Bangalore batter Suyash Prabhudessai at the Ekana Stadium on Monday.
Amit Mishra, who has played for Delhi Capitals and Surisers Hyderabad, now plays for Lucknow Super Giants who made their IPL debut last season. It has been a stunning journey for Mishra who has played in the IPL since the inaugural season in 2008. Now 40, Mishra has played 160 matches in the IPL and has overtaken Lasith Malinga to move to No.3 behind Dwayne Bravo (183) and Yuzvendra Chahal (178) in the all-time list for IPL wicket-takers.
Dwayne Bravo had made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians before moving to Chennai Super Kings where he dominated the charts with his wicket-taking skills and hard-hitting abilities with the bat. Chahal who won the Purple Cap in 2022, is No.2 in the list with 178 wickets; he is primed to move to the top of the table in the IPL
soon as he is just 5 wickets away from Bravo.
Amit Mishra did not play a single match in 2022 even though he was part of the DC side. His best season in the IPL came 10 years back when he picked 21 wickets from 17 matches in 2013. In the 5 years before that, Mishra had 13 wickets (2012), 19 wickets (2011), 17 (2010), 14 (2009) and 11 (2008).
Amit Mishra did not play much in 2020 and 2021 and consequently, did not have a lot to show for in the wickets tally but there is no denying his utility on Indian pitches. The Lucknow pitch has been among the slowest in the IPL this season and he was obviously going to be a key player for the hosts against a dangerous RCB batting line-up.
The top-10 in the IPL wicket-takers' list is dominated by Indians. While Dwayne Bravo still tops the list, Indian stars like Yuzvendra Chahal, Amit Mishra, Piyush Chawla, R Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harbhajan Singh and Jasprit Bumrah occupy dominating spots.
