Anand Mahindra on Saturday announced on social media that he will be gifting an SUV each to the five Indian players who made their debuts, and Shardul Thakur, during the Test series in Australia.
The billionaire businessman, who is the Mahindra Group chairman, will be gifting the all-new Thar SUV to Mohammed Siraj, Shubman Gill, Washington Sundar, T Natarajan, Navdeep Saini and Shardul for their outstanding performances in Australia which helped India clinch the four-match series and retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy earlier this month.
Siraj, who made his debut in the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne, was the highest wicket taker for India with 13 in 3 matches which also included his maiden five-wicket haul that he picked in the series-decider in Brisbane earlier this week.
Saini made his debut in the New Year's Test in Sydney while Sundar and Natarajan played their first Test at the Gabba. He bowled with an injured hamstring in Australia's 2nd innings but went wicketless in the match.
Shardul, who was playing his 2nd Test in Brisbane, was also
included in Mahindra's list as his debut had lasted just 1.4 overs against the West Indies in Hyderabad in 2018.
Shardul scored 67 crucial runs in the final Test and picked 7 wickets in the match as India stunned the Aussies by 3 wickets to become the first team to beat Australia at the Gabba since 1988.
Gill, the only batsman in Mahindra's list, impressed one and all by scoring 259 runs in 3 Tests at 51.80 with 2 fifties and a highest score of 91 which he made in the record run chase in Brisbane on January 19.
"Six young men made their debuts in the recent historic series #INDvAUS (Shardul’s 1 earlier appearance was short-lived due to injury)They’ve made it possible for future generations of youth in India to dream & Explore the Impossible.
"The reason for this gift is to exhort young people to believe in themselves & ‘Take the road less traveled.’ Bravo Mohammed, Shardul, Shubhman,Natarajan,Navdeep & Washington! I now plead with
@Mahindra_Auto to get them their THARS on priority," Mahindra wrote in a series of tweets.
