The schedule for the 2023 edition of the Asia Cup is most likely to be announced “during this week”, a media release from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) read. The release also said that Pakistan would host the opening match of the tournament.
Last month, it was decided that Pakistan and Sri Lanka would co-host the Asia Cup from August 31 to September 17. Earlier, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also made it clear that India would not be travelling to Pakistan for the Asia Cup.
“On Saturday, 15 July, a meeting was held between the PCB and ACC officials in respect of finalising the schedule of the Asia Cup 2023, logistical and organizational arrangements and marketing campaigns,” the PCB press release read.
“The finalised schedule is likely to be announced during this week. With the opening match scheduled to kick off in Pakistan, the PCB, as the event host, looks forward to welcoming cricket fans from across
the world to experience Pakistan’s renowned hospitality,” the release added.
The decision regarding the full schedule of the Asia Cup was taken at the ICC Board, Committee meetings and the Annual Conference that took place from July 10 to 13 in Durban, South Africa.
India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nepal are the six participating teams that will be taking part in the Asia Cup 2023. Two teams from each group will advance to the Super four stage.
While India, Pakistan and Nepal are in one group, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will form the other group. Dasun Shanaka’s Sri Lanka are the defending champions after they beat Babar Azam’s Pakistan last year in the final.
A number of other topics, including equal prize money for women’s and men’s teams for ICC tournaments, were also discussed. The chairman of the PCB’s Management Committee, Zaka Ashraf, was also present at the meeting.
