Dubai: Australia beat Sri Lanka by seven wickets in a Super 12 match of the T20 World Cup in Dubai last night. Chasing the target of 155 runs, Australia, achieved the target in 17 overs for the loss of 3 wickets. They made 155 for 3. Opener David Warner, 65 smashed a quickfire fifty. Apart from Warner, captain Aaron Finch, 37 and Steven Smith, 28, and Marcus Stoinis, 16 also made valuable contributions with the bat for Australia.
For Sri Lanka, Kusal Perera and Charith Asalanka scored 35 each while Bhanuka Rajapaksa provided the big hits towards the end of the innings, remaining unbeaten on 33 off 26
balls as they made 154 for six. For Australia, Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and Adam Zampa took 2 wickets each. Adam Zampa was declared Player of the Match.
For Sri Lanka, Wanindu Hasaranga de Silva took 2 wickets while Dasun Shanaka 1 wicket. Earlier, Australia won the toss and elected to field first. With this, Australia now have secured two wins in a row. They will now face England on Saturday.
Today, Bangladesh will take on West Indies in Sharjah at 3:30 pm, while Pakistan will play against Afghanistan in Dubai at 7:30 pm.
