Azhar Ali hit a daddy hundred on Day 2 of the historic 1st Test between Pakistan and Australia at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium as the hosts dominated the proceedings in the series opener. Despite not scoring at a quick pace, Pakistan declared on 476/4 before Australia openers David Warner and Usman Khawaja managed to bat only over as bad light forced early Stumps on Saturday.
The 2nd day began on a tough note as both Australia and Pakistan players observed a minute's silence, in memory of Shane Warne and the victims of Friday's attack in a mosque in Peshawar.
Captain Pat Cummins was made to work hard as Imam-ul-Haq and Azhar Ali continued from where they left on Friday, slowly but steadily accumulating the runs for Pakistan in the first innings. Ali
finished with 185 while Imam hit 157 to grind down the Australian bowling attack, which used as many as 8 bowlers.
Imam was on 143 when Australia made a timid caught-behind appeal against him, which was turned down.
Australia chose not to review the decision but UltraEdge showed a spike as the Nathan Lyon delivery passed the bat.
Cummins then wasted a review trying to get Azhar caught behind in the post-lunch session.
Three balls later, Imam wasted one of his own trying to overturn an lbw decision against him. The bespectacled opener had to go, however, as replays confirmed the Cummins delivery would have gone on to hit the middle stump.
Imam's 157 was studded with 16 boundaries and two sixes.
