Hamilton: Bangladesh Women’s cricket team scored a historic win over Pakistan in the Women’s ODI World Cup at Seddon Park, Hamilton in New Zealand on Monday. This is Bangladesh’s first-ever victory over Pakistan in the Women’s ODI cricket.
Bangladesh set a target of 235 runs for Pakistan to win which is the highest score for Bangladesh in one-day cricket. Fargana Hoque scored 71 off 115 balls, Captain Nigar Sultana 46 off 64 balls, and Sharmin Akhtar a splendid 55 off 44 balls to help Bangladesh reach its best score in one-day cricket.
Pakistan got off to a solid start and were 183 for 2 after 41.5 overs. Opener Sidra Ameen scored a powerful 104. However, Bangladeshi spinners
Fahima Khatun and Rumana Ahmed wrecked the Pakistani team by snapping 5 wickets over the next 13 balls allowing them to score just 5 more runs. The Pakistan team were restricted to 225 for nine losing the match by 9 runs.
Fahima Khatun claimed 3 wickets for 38 runs and she has adjudged the player of the match for her superb performance with the ball. Rumana Ahmed took 2 wickets for 29.
With this victory, Bangladesh retains a chance to enter the Semis while Pakistan’s chances look dim as they remain at the bottom of the list with no wins from four matches so far. Bangladesh will be playing against the West Indies on 18 March.
