All rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been named as Test Captain of Bangladesh after Mominul Haque decided to quit the test captaincy earlier this week. Announcing the decision Bangladesh Cricket Board President Nazmul Hassan Papon said that Liton Das will be the Vice-captain for the test format of play.
BCB President Papon said that a total of three players were in contention to be the captain for the test side. The BCB decided to announce Vice-captain alongwith the captain after holding elaborate discussion, reports the official news agency BSS.
Earlier, Mominul Haq had relinquished the captaincy of the test matches in view of his consistently lean patch in batting over the last seven innings where he scored in single digits. He had said that he would
like to concentrate on his batting. Mominul led Bangladesh in 17 test matches out of which it lost 12, won 3 and drew in 2 matches under his stewardship.
Shakib Al Hasan will lead Bangladesh team in test matches for the third time from the forthcoming West Indies series. He was first appointed captain in 2009. In 2018 again, he was appointed Captain of the test team when Mushfiqur Rahim stepped down from the captaincy.
However, he had to leave the job in 2019 after ICC banned him for two years for his failure to report that bookies had approached him for favour.
Till now, Shakib has led Bangladesh in 14 test matches in which the country has lost in 11 and won in 3 matches.
