The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), on Friday, December 2, named Litton Das as Bangladesh skipper for the upcoming three-match ODI series against India.
Earlier, veteran batter Tamim Iqbal sustained a groin injury during a warm-up match, after which he failed to make the cut for the 50-over series. After being advised to rest for two weeks, the southpaw has also become uncertain for Bangladesh’s opening Test against India in Chattogram.
The BCB, in the meantime, sounded confident about the Dinajpur-born Litton’s leadership skills ahead of the white-ball
series.
“Litton is one of the more experienced players in the side and has demonstrated leadership qualities. He has a sharp cricketing mind and reads the game well,” Jalal Yunus, BCB’s Cricket Operations Chairman, was quoted as saying.
“It is most unfortunate to lose Tamim due to injury for this very important series, especially because, under his captaincy, the team has played some outstanding cricket in the last couple of years and he has been our most prolific batter in this format. He will be missed but we also feel that Litton has the attributes to do a good job as captain,” he added.
