Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Cricket Operations chairman, Jalal Yunus, said the decision to rest Mahmudullah for the upcoming series against Zimbabwe was taken after discussions with the veteran. On Friday, the BCB named the T20I squad and named Nurul Hasan Sohan as their skipper.
Earlier, it was learned that the Bangladesh team management, reportedly, was unhappy with Mahmudullah’s captaincy. However, Yunus said that Sohan was made the captain after discussing with the 36-year-old Riyad.
“We have been discussing the T20 team for several days. The issue of Riyad's captaincy
was discussed. Today we called Riyad and discussed the T20 team. After discussing with him, we have decided to send a new team. We will try with some new players. That’s why we’ve chosen Sohan to lead the team,” Yunus was quoted as saying.
Yunus also stated that the Mymensingh-born Mahmudullah is still the captain of the T20I team.
“I just want to see, in the Zimbabwe series, how the new team performs. I will think about the latter later. The current team is not final. But I will not say experimental. We are giving rest to Riyad for the Zimbabwe series for now,” he stated.
