BCCI secretary Jay Shah expressed his happiness after India's history-making win over England in the U-19 Women's T20 World Cup final on Sunday and announced a prize money of five crore rupees for the team and the supporting staff.
The Indian bowlers were in fine form in the summit clash as they ran through the England batting lineup with relative ease. Titas Sahdu, Archana Devi and Parshavi Chopra took two wickets each as they bundled them out for 68 runs in 17.1 overs.
India chased down the wickets with six overs to spare and won the match by seven wickets to be crowned as the inaugural U-19 Women's World Cup Champions on Sunday.
Wishes have been flowing in for the Indian team after their incredible triumph with Shah being the latest one. Taking to Twitter, the BCCI secretary said that women's cricket in India is on the upswing and the world cup
triumph has taken the stature of the women's cricket several notches higher.
He went to announce that the entire team and support staff will get a reward of five crore rupees. He ended his tweet by saying that 2023 has been a path-breaking year for the sport in the country.
"Women’s Cricket in India is on the upswing and the World Cup triumph has taken the stature of women’s cricket several notches higher. I am delighted to announce INR 5 crore for the entire team and support staff as prize money. This is surely a path-breaking year," said Jay Shah.
This was the first time that India had won a major trophy in women's cricket after the senior team reaching the final of major tournaments like the ODI World Cup, T20I World Cup and the Commonwealth Games final in recent times. However, they were forced to settle for the runners-up spot on all of the occasions.
