Team India’s existing title sponsor, Byju’s, is set to continue on with the Men in Blue until March 2023. The decision to continue on with Team India was taken during BCCI’s apex council meeting.
According to reports, Byju’s had agreed to extend its team sponsorship rights till November 2023. However, BCCI received communication from Byju’s end, asking their association to be ended post the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia. However, after the apex council meeting, Byju’s is set to continue as the title sponsor of the Indian team until March 2023.
Meanwhile, MPL Sports is also set to continue on as Team India’s kit and merchandising sponsor until March 2023.
The BCCI apex council meeting was held on December 21 to take a few important decisions regarding the jersey sponsors, central contracts for players, injury management for some players, along with reviewing the performance of the Indian team in the
Asia Cup T20 and ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
BCCI may also decide on a new ODI and T20I captain for Team India after under-whelming performances at the 2022 Asia Cup and the recently concluded ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia. Reports suggest that all-rounder Hardik Pandya could be given the role of India’s white-ball captain, taking over from the veteran Rohit Sharma, who is India’s captain for all three formats of the game.
In addition to this, new central contracts for star performers are also likely to be discussed in the apex council meeting. Suryakumar Yadav, who is currently the top-ranked batter in T20Is, could get the promotion along with Hardik Pandya and a host of other youngsters. Meanwhile, former Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane and senior pacer Ishant Sharma could be dropped from their central contracts.
The appointment of the new selection committee is also likely to be approved as part of the meeting.
