The BCCI's meeting, which was scheduled to take place in Guwahati on Saturday, March 29 related to the central contracts for the men's team and the England tour preparations has been postponed to a later date, it has learnt. A discussion about the senior men's team was also on the agenda. There is no clarity about the new date for the meeting.
It has been reported earlier that the BCCI were set to meet with head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar to finalise the central contracts list for the upcoming season and potential future Test captain. While Rohit Sharma, along with Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja, is set to retain his A-plus contract, his future in the longest format of the game remains in limbo.
Kohli is another name who did have a chat with the selectors about his future in Test cricket and it seems like the England tour could be make or break for the star batter.
It was also expected
that a few new names would make an entry into the contracts list, as Shreyas Iyer is set to earn a recall. Shreyas was omitted from the central contracts list last year along with Ishan Kishan, but after his recent performances in the Champions Trophy, the Mumbai batter is all set to get an entry back into the contracts list.
Another new name who is set for BCCI contract is Varun Chakravarthy, who was India's trump card in their Champions Trophy triumph in Dubai. Chakravarthy picked up 9 wickets in the 3 matches he played and helped India win the title.
Apart from the central contracts, high on the agenda is the future of the Test team after their recent run of poor form. Discussions were scheduled to be held on certain players' availability and future in the longest format of the game with the England tour right around the corner.
India will be playing 5 Tests in England with the first match starting on June 20 in Leeds.
