BCCI President Roger Binny and Vice-President Rajeev Shukla were greeted warmly by PCB Chair Zaka Ashraf upon their historic visit to Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023. Upon his arrival in Lahore, Pakistan, BCCI president Binny expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and the invitation to attend the Asia Cup.
Binny reminisced about his last visit to Pakistan in 2005 when he worked with the fast bowlers of the Asian Cricket Council and also mentioned that they would be watching Sri Lanka play Afghanistan the following day.
"My name is Roger Binny from the BCCI. I am very pleased to be back in Pakistan. My last visit to Pakistan was in 2005 when we worked with the Pakistan fast bowlers of the Asian Cricket Council. It's been a very welcome trip. Thank you for inviting us over. We will watch Sri Lanka play Afghanistan tomorrow. Thank you very much," Binny said in a video posted by PCB.
Binny's
visit to Pakistan marks a significant moment in cricket diplomacy, reflecting the sport's power to bridge divides and foster international camaraderie. As the head of the wealthiest governing body of cricket in the world, Binny's presence in Pakistan underscores the importance of the Asia Cup and the continued cooperation between cricketing nations.
The two were invited as BCCI representatives to an official dinner in Lahore to celebrate Pakistan's hosting of the tournament. Due to the BCCI's unwillingness to play their games in Pakistan, Pakistan is only hosting four of the thirteen matches. The rest of the matches will be played in Pallekelle and Colombo, with Sri Lanka serving as co-hosts.
India are facing Nepal and a win or a draw will be required to secure their place in the Super 4s stage of the tournament. Pakistan became the first team to qualify for the Super 4 stage, with a win over Nepal and a draw against India.
