BCCI selection panel: Chetan Sharma, Maninder Singh and Shiv Sunder Das have confirmed their applications

Five days after the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) invited applications for the the 3 national selectors positions in the senior men’s committee led by Sunil Joshi, former cricketers Chetan Sharma, Maninder Singh and Shiv Sunder Das have confirmed their applications for the vacant posts.

The shortlisted applicants will be replacing three outgoing selectors, Devang Gandhi (East Zone), Sarandeep Singh (North Zone) and Jatin Paranjape (West Zone), in the senior men's committee.

According the news agency PTI, former India pacer Ajit Agarkar is also in fray for the selection panel job.

Chetan Sharma, who played 23 Test and 65 ODIs for India and Maninder Singh, the former India spinner with experience of 35 Tests and 59 ODIs confirmed their applications for the selectors' post.

"Yes, I have applied for the selector's post. I have no issues being an ordinary member of the panel. My main aim is to serve Indian cricket. I have played alongside legends like Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Dilip Vegsarkar, learnt a lot from them," Chetan Sharma, first bowler to claim a hat-trick in World Cup (1987), told PTI.

"Yes, I had applied last time (in January) and I am applying this time. If given a chance, I will certainly like to give my



best shot," said Maninder Singh.

The third cricketer to confirm his application is former India opener Shiv Sunder Das. While Chetan and Maninder have applied from the North zone, Das ha filed his application from the East Zone. Sunil Joshi, the chief selector is from the South Zone, whereas Harvinder Singh is representing the central zone. The BCCI has officially discarded the zonal system, it is highly unlikely that two people from the same zone will be kept in the selection panel.

Some of the applicants in the fray have more international matches than Sunil Joshi, who will then have to relinquish his post as per Lodha Committee rule.

The board has set a deadline of Sunday, November 15, for sending applications. The basic requirement for the applicants is a minimum eligibility criterion of 30 first-class appearances and also an age-cap of 60 years is in the picture. Besides, international experience (7 Tests or a combination of 10 ODIs and 20 first-class matches) will be given preference over the basic criterion of 30 first-class matches.

The job of the candidates picked for the senior selection committee will include selecting coaches for Team India, India A, Duleep Trophy, Deodhar Trophy, Challenger Trophy teams & Rest of India (for Irani Cup).
