Rohit Sharma has cleared the fitness test at the National Cricket Academy and is set to fly to Australia ahead of the Border-Gavaskar series. Team India's medical team will reassess Rohit Sharma post his 14-day quarantine to establish his fitness status and a call on his participation in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will be taken accordingly.

If Rohit Sharma is declared fit after his quarantine then he can feature in the last 2 Tests of the much-anticipated 4-match series in Australia. Notably, Rohit Sharma has been asked to follow a detailed programme for the duration of the two weeks he will be quarantined for. After a week of training, the India opener is expected to be ready for the 3rd Test, which gets underway at the Sydney Cricket Ground on January 7.

Rohit's availability is key to India's chances of making a mark in the Test series as skipper Virat

Kohli will not be available after the series opener - a day-night fixture in Adelaide, starting December 17. Kohli will be returning home to be with his wife and Bollywood actor Anushka Sharma for the birth of their child.

Rohit Sharma has been picked in India's Test squad after he was rested for the limited-overs fixtures in Australia due to the hamstring injury he picked up during Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020. Rohit braved the hamstring issue to play the play-offs and the final for Mumbai Indians even as he was initially left out from India squads.

Rohit was added to the Test squad but the India opener did not travel with the team to Australia. The BCCI cleared the air over the issue, saying Rohit had to head back to India from the UAE to attend to family illness. Rohit has been working on his recovery and fitness at the NCA since landing in Bengaluru.
