Caribbean Premier League 2020, the 8th edition of the T20 tournament, will be played from August 18 to September 10 behind closed doors in Trinidad and Tobago. CPL will be the first franchise-based big-ticket T20 tournament to be played after the enforced break due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.
CPL 2020 will feature 6 teams and 33 matches with the final set to be played on September 10, days ahead of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 which kickstarts on September 19 in the UAE. Leg-spinner Pravin Tambe, who represented the likes of Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Lions, will become the first Indian cricketer to feature in the CPL.
While CPL 2020 was initially scheduled to be
held across 8 countries, the novel coronavirus pandemic has resulted in Trinidad and Tobago only hosting the tournament.
CPL 2020 will open with a double header on August 18 with Trinbago Knight Riders taking on Amazon Guyana Warriors and defending champions Barbados Tridents facing St Kitts & Nevis Patriots.
The tournament will be played across only two venues the Queen's Park Oval and the Brian Lara Cricket Academy. The semi-finals and the final will be held at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy.
The tournament will take place behind closed doors in a bio-secure environment with a series of stringent protocols in place in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
