Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni walked out as the skipper of the franchise for the 200th time in the Indian Premier League on 12 April, Wednesday. Dhoni, one of the greatest players to have played for India and Chennai Super Kings is the only player to captain a franchise in 200 games in the history of the tournament.

Dhoni reached his feat while playing against Sanju Samson's Rajasthan Royals, who arrived at Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium to play their fourth game of the season. MS Dhoni has captained Chennai Super Kings of the larger chunk of their Indian Premier League matches, barring the half season in 2022, when CSK tried to transition from Dhoni to Ravindra Jadeja.

Dhoni returned as the Chennai Super Kings captain after Jadeja decided to drop himself as the CSK captain and took over the reins once again in 2022.

The former India captain had hinted at his retirement last season, stating that he would like to thank all his fans by traveling across the country when Covid-19 regulations were going to be lifted in India.

Under Dhoni, CSK had a good start to the IPL, winning 2 matches and losing 1 against Gujarat Titans. CSK have hired big names this season in the hopes of transitioning once again, but it is yet not clear, who will take over the reins from MS Dhoni at the end of the season. CSK has the likes of Moeen Ali, Ben Stokes in their team, but opener Ruturaj Gaikwad could turn out to be a wildcard in the race for th captaincy position.

Under Dhoni, CSK became an institution that trusted non-conventional players in T20 roles and drove the franchise to success in 4 tournaments, the second-highest tally in the history of the Indian Premier League.
