David Warner, on Saturday, April 8, became the third batter to score 6000 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The southpaw accomplished the feat in Delhi Capitals’ (DC) match against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati.
Warner joined Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli in the list of batters with 6000 runs in the history of the tournament. The left-handed batter also became the first overseas cricketer to reach the landmark.
Moreover, the 36-year-old Warner became the fastest batter to 6000 runs in the IPL, having accomplished the milestone in 165 innings. Kohli and Dhawan got to the milestone in 188 and 199 innings respectively.
Warner started playing for the Delhi franchise, then Daredevils, back in 2009. Thereafter, he shifted to the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH),
a team he captained to glory in 2016 after defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the final.
In 2021, Warner was involved in a controversy with the Sunrisers, who released him before the auction for the 2022 edition. In 2023, Warner got to lead the Capitals in the absence of Rishabh Pant, who was ruled out after he sustained multiple injuries in a car accident on the Delhi-Dehradun highway.
Warner hasn’t had the best of times in IPL 2023. The Capitals started their campaign with a defeat to the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 50 runs. David Warner scored a half-century, but his knock went in vain. Thereafter, they lost to the Gujarat Titans (GT) by six wickets.
Warner also scored 37 runs off 32 balls with seven fours against the Titans before Alzarri Joseph accounted for his wicket.
