USA’s Tara Norris, on Sunday, March 5, became the first player to pick up a five-wicket haul in the Women’s Premier League (WPL). The left-arm speedster accomplished the feat in Delhi Capitals’ match against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.

As per the rules in the WPL, a team could field five foreign players on the condition that the fifth player had to be from an associate cricket playing nation. That’s where Norris came in as the other foreigner, along with Marizanne Kapp, Alice Capsey, Meg Lanning and Jess Jonassen.

Norris got his first wicket in the form of Ellyse Perry, who scored 31 runs off 19 balls with five fours. In the same over, the southpaw got the wicket of Disha Kasat. In her second over, Norris found herself on a

hat-trick after getting the wickets of Richa Ghosh and Kanika Ahuja.

In her last over, Norris accounted for the crucial scalp of England captain Heather Knight. Norris finished with figures of 4-0-29-5. On the back of her spell, the Capitals beat the Challengers by 60 runs.

Earlier, the Capitals racked up a massive score of 223 for the loss of two wickets. Shafali Verma and Meg Lanning laid the platform with a partnership of 162 runs for the opening wicket. Shafali raced to 84 runs off 45 balls before Knight got rid of her.

The Challengers lost wickets at regular intervals in their run-chase and finished with 163 for the loss of eight wickets. Smriti Mandhana, Perry, Megan Schutt and Knight scored in their 30s, but none of them carried on and scored big.
