England began their campaign in the Tri-nation Women's T20 series on a rousing note at Mumbai yesterday, beating Australia by 8 wickets.
Opting to field after winning the toss, England restricted the Australians to 149 for eight. In reply, the English team chased down the target with as many as three overs to spare.
They rode on the blistering half-centuries of Natalie Sciver and Tamsin Beaumont. Rachael Haynes top-scored for Australia with a 65 off 45 balls. Her knock
included eight boundaries and a six.
For England, medium pacer Jenny Gunn finished with three wickets while Sciver, who top scored with unbeaten 68 also claimed two Australian wickets.This was Australia's first loss in the tournament after they had convincingly defeated hosts India by six wickets.
India next play with England on Sunday and with Australia on Monday. The matches will be played at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai, starting from 10 a.m.
