Former Pakistan all-rounder Billy Ibadulla passed away at the age of 88 on Friday, July 12. Ibadulla holds the distinction of becoming the first Pakistan batter to score a hundred on Test debut. He scored 166 runs off 330 balls with 20 fours against Australia back in October 1964 at the National Stadium. In the same match, he put on 249 runs for the opening wicket along with wicketkeeper Abdul Kadir. After 60 years, it remains as the highest partnership by two debutants in the history of Test cricket.
Later, Yasir
Hameed, Fawad Alam, Javed Miandad, Umar Akmal, Azhar Mahmood, Ali Naqvi, Mohammad Wasim, Abid Ali, Younis Khan, Taufeeq Umar went on to score hundreds for Pakistan on debut.
Dennis Amiss, who played along with Ibadulla for Warwickshire, paid tribute to his former teammate.
"He was a special cricketer, one of the greatest, and we had lots of fun times together. He could be really naughty at times, lots of micky taking and he gave as good as he got. We loved him at Warwickshire,” Amiss wrote.
