Mumbai Indians captain Harmanpreet Kaur was elated after her side thrashed Delhi Capitals by eight wickets to register their third successive win in the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2023. Harmanpreet lauded her bowlers Saika Ishaque, Isabelle Wong and Hayley Matthews for coming up with superb three-wicket hauls to bundle out Delhi Capitals for a mere 105 in 18 overs.
With a small target to chase, Mumbai cruised to their third straight win in 15 overs, led by captain Harmanpreet Kaur (11 not out) and Nat Sciver-Brunt (23 not out). Chasing 106, Yastika Bhatia (41) and Hayley Matthews (32) scored 47 runs in the powerplay and shared 65 runs for the first wicket to secure a big win for their team. For Delhi, it was their first loss of the inaugural season.
"I think today
our bowlers did really well and they bowled according to their plans. They are making my job easier, they are willing to bowl and ready to give us those breakthroughs," Harmanpreet Kaur said in the post-match presentation ceremony.
"When you have so many bowling options, my job is easy. Credit goes to our bowlers for the way they are bowling on their fields. After the last game, we sat and discussed. In the last game, we bowled a few bad balls but today we backed our plans and our skills. Yastika and Hayley gave us a good start and that is what we were looking at.
"The wicket was a little slow and they (openers) played very sensibly. Now, the tournament is going to start because pitches will be on the slower side and we have to keep this going," Harmanpreet Kaur added.
