ICC World Cup 2023: BCCI announces sale of additional 4 lakh tickets on September 8

The Indian cricket board (BCCI) on Wednesday announced the sale of 4 lakh additional tickets to cater to the high demand for the Cricket World Cup 2023 matches. The next phase of tickets will go on sale from 8 am IST on September 8.

Notably, the first phase of sale from August 25 to September 3 saw tickets for World Cup matches, including the matches involving hosts India, selling like hotcakes. Fans on social media expressed their disappointment over not being able to get hold of tickets with a few alleging that there were few tickets sold for the marquee clash between India and Pakistan when comparing the seating capacity of the Narendra Modi Stadium, which will host the match on October 14.

The BCCI said it would be a general sale of tickets for all matches on September 8.

"The BCCI deeply acknowledges that fans are the heartbeat of the tournament, and their unwavering passion, engagement, and contributions are pivotal to the success of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023," the BCCI said in a



statement.

"After discussions with the hosting state associations, the BCCI has announced the release of approximately 400,000 tickets for the highly anticipated tournament. This measure is aimed at accommodating as many passionate cricket fans as possible, ensuring their participation in this historic event," it added.

The BCCI also confirmed that the sale of tickets will be via the official website of the Cricket World Cup.

The first phase of the sale of World Cup tickets ended on September 3 and the sale of tickets for the semi-final and the final will be held on September 15.

Notably, the sale of tickets for the World Cup has attracted a lot of ire from fans as there was a delay in announcing it due to the delay in confirming the final schedule. The International Cricket Council made changes to the schedule to sort out logistical issues last month.The delay in the announcement of ticket sales has led to confusion and traveling fans are fretting the logistical issues that they might face during the World Cup.
