Former batter Aakash Chopra heaped praise on Yashasvi Jaiswal after the latter scored a brisk half-century in the second T20I against Australia on Sunday at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram.
Jaiswal scored 53 runs off 25 balls with nine fours and two sixes, helping India post a mammoth score of 235 for the loss of foue wickets. Chopra heaped praise on the young left-handed batter for playing with a lot of freedom and not fearing much.
Jaiswal also pleaded to Indian cricket for being persistent with Jaiswal going into the T20 World Cup to be played next year in the United States of America (USA) and the West Indies.
“Yashasvi is a star. The most exciting batting talent in the country. May he continue to bat
with the same freedom and fearlessness. And I hope Indian cricket is willing to accommodate an occasional poor-run in T20s, for that’s the nature of the beast,” Chopra wrote on X.
Jaiswal missed out in the first T20I in Vizag, but he made amends in Trivandrum. He also became the third batter to score a half-century in a T20I inside the powerplay. KL Rahul (against Scotland in 2021) and Rohit Sharma (against New Zealand in 2020) are the others to have accomplished the milestone.
Jaiswal, however, made the highest score by an Indian batter in the powerplay in T20Is. Jaiswal has had a brilliant year in the shorter format. Earlier this year, he made the record of the fastest century in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL), breaking Rahul’s record.
