Ruturaj Gaikwad, on Thursday, November 23, became only the third Indian batter to bag a diamond duck in T20I. Gaikwad got out without facing a single ball in the first T20I against Matthew Wade’s Australia in Visakhapatnam.
In the penultimate ball of the first over of India’s run-chase, he was involved in a terrible mix-up with Yashasvi Jaiswal, who sold his partner down the river while attempting to take a second run. India lost their first wicket with their score at 11 in 0.5 overs.
Gaikwad joined Amit Mishra and Jasprit Bumrah among the other Indian batters to have got out for a diamond duck in T20Is. Back on February 9, 2016, Bumrah got out for a diamond duck against Sri Lanka at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in
Pune.
Thereafter in January 2017, Mishra got out against England at the Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) Stadium in Nagpur. Overall, 21 Indian batters have got out for diamond ducks in Indian cricket.
Apart from Bumrah, Mishra and Gaikwad, the others in the list are Bishan Singh Bedi, Roger Binny, Anshuman Gaekwad, Chetan Sharma, Venkatpathy Raju, Javagal Srinath, Abey Kuruvilla, Rajesh Chauhan, Navjot Singh Sidhu, MSK Prasad, Harbhajan Singh, Rahul Dravid, Sreesanth, Zaheer Khan, Rahul Dravid, Virat Kohli, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Umesh Yadav.
Gaikwad will be looking to make a comeback in the second T20I as India are looking to find their right combination ahead of the T20 World Cup to be played in the West Indies and the United States of America (USA).
