Virat Kohli's poor run of form continued after he failed to impress on his return to red-ball cricket. The veteran batter scored just 23 runs in two innings of the first Test match against Bangladesh in Chennai but managed to register a huge milestone during the second innings.

The 35-year-old Kohli broke Sachin Tendulkar another record as he became the fastest cricketer to reach 12,000 runs at home in international cricket. Kohli took only 243 innings, 24 less than the former captain, to reach this historic milestone on Friday.

Fastest to reach 12,000 international runs at Home

1. Virat Kohli - 243 innings
2. Sachin Tendulkar -

267 innings
3. Kumar Sangakkara - 269 innings
4. Jacques Kallis - 271 innings
5. Ricky Ponting - 275 innings

Virat has struggled for consistency across formats in 2024 but has been breaking records and settling new milestones by each innings. He is now closing on reaching 27,000 international runs and 9,000 Test runs which he might achieve in the second match in Kanpur starting on September 27.

Meanwhile, Kohli's poor run in red-ball cricket continued as he suffered an unfortunate LBW dismissal in the second innings at MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday. Surprisingly, Kohli opted not to take a DRS call which later showed a clear spike in replay.
