The staff at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack found a unique way to help the fans beat the heat during the second ODI between India and England on Sunday, February 9. During the 26th over of the English innings, a man was seen sprinkling water on the fans sitting under the sun. The temperature in Cuttack was around 34 degrees Celsius, but seemed like 35 for many as the heat started taking a toll on the fans.
With the stands in Cuttack packed to capacity, fans found themselves struggling with the severe weather conditions and the intense Indian heat adding to the excitement of the crucial contest. To make life easier for the enthusiastic fans, the stadium staff began sprinkling water on the crowd, who must have heaved a sigh of relief after the kind gesture shown by the management in Cuttack.
The thrilling action on the field between the two heavyweights kept the fans
engaged, but the act of kindness by the staff at the stadium, sprinkling water on the struggling fans, became an equally memorable moment. It was a testament to the strong connection between cricket and the people who make live sporting events a memorable experience.
As far as the match was concerned, England came into the Cuttack ODI on the back of a four-wicket defeat in the series opener at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur. After opting to bat first in Cuttack, England got off to a splendid start courtesy of Phil Salt and Ben Duckett. The duo put on 81 runs for the opening wicket off 10.5 overs.
While Salt got out to Varun Chakravarthy, who made his ODI debut, Ravindra Jadeja got the wicket of Duckett, who scored a 56-ball 65. England are also looking to gain some momentum before taking part in the Champions Trophy, scheduled to be held from February 19.
