Shubman Gill's sensational hundred and a complete bowling performance handed India a 3-0 series win at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, February 12. After putting up a massive total of 356 runs in the first innings, India simply waited for England to implode in the chase.
The visitors only managed to score 214 runs in 34.2 overs on Wednesday, losing the match by 142 runs in Ahmedabad. It marked a sorry end to a tour for Jos Buttler's English side, who lost 7 out of their 8 games in the white-ball format against the India team.
After getting blown away by Varun Chakravarthy in the T20I series, England failed to make a comeback with the bat, as they continued to lose wickets throughout their chase once again. In the final dress rehearsal before the Champions Trophy, the story was similar once again, as England threw away their wickets despite a strong start.
Ben Duckett and Phil Salt started well, adding 50 runs in the first 5 overs, but lost their wickets to Arshdeep Singh. Both batters were outfoxed by Arshdeep Singh's slower deliveries, which the pacer was forced to
employ after getting smacked around in his 3rd over of the game. Once the cutters came into play, the openers fell into the trap, handing soft dismissals to the left-armer, playing his first match of the series.
After Arshdeep's quick wickets, Axar Patel controlled the flow of the runs, taking over the role of Ravindra Jadeja, who was rested for the game. Axar finished his overs quickly and kept it to the stumps, and was awarded the wicket of Joe Root in the 21st over of the game. Once Root got out, it was simply a matter of when England would crash and burn, and it only took 13 overs after that for England to get bowled out.
Just like the last two matches, Harshit Rana was terrible with the new ball but took key wickets with a fiery spell in the middle overs. Rana picked up the wickets of Harry Brook and Jos Buttler, hurting England's chances of batting the full 50 overs.
Every single India bowler was on the wickets' column on Wednesday, marking a perfect end to their preparation for the Champions Trophy. Kuldeep Yadav also had a great day in the field, registering 8-0-38-1 on the day.
