Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been released from the Indian squad for the fourth Test against England, starting Thursday, February 23 at the JSCA Stadium in Ranchi.
The Indian cricket board took the decision bearing in mind Bumrah’s workload in top-level cricket. On Tuesday, the Indian team landed in Ranchi and Bumrah was one of the notable absentees.
“Jasprit Bumrah has been released from the squad for the 4th IDFC First Bank Test against England in Ranchi. The decision was taken keeping in mind the duration of the series and amount of cricket he has played in recent times,” the BCCI wrote in a statement.
Bumrah, who recently became the No.1 Test bowler after his heroics in the
Vizag Test, is currently the leading wicket-taker of the 5-match series with 17 scalps to his name.
KL Rahul, in the meantime, failed to recover in time after he had discomfort in his right quadriceps in the opening Test at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
Mukesh Kumar has joined the squad after playing in Bengal’s Ranji Trophy match against Bihar at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
