Smriti Mandhana scripted her name in the history books as she became the fastest Indian woman to reach 4000 runs in One-Day Internationals. Mandhana achieved this milestone during India’s first ODI against Ireland on January 10 at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot. She is now the 15th woman in the world to surpass the 4000-run mark in ODIs and only the second Indian to do so, after Mithali Raj.
Mandhana reached the landmark in the ninth over of India’s chase, taking a single off Arlene Kelly. Leading the Indian team in the absence of regular captain
Harmanpreet Kaur, who was resting, Mandhana played a quick-fire knock of 41 runs from 29 balls. Her innings included a crucial 70-run partnership with debutant Pratika Rawal, giving India a solid start in their chase of 239.
This ODI was Mandhana’s 95th match in the format, making her the fastest Indian woman and the third-fastest overall to achieve the 4000-run milestone. She also became the first Indian woman to reach this milestone in fewer than 100 innings. Mithali Raj, with 7805 runs, remains India’s leading run-scorer in women’s ODIs, with Mandhana now second on the list.
