London: India made history after defeating England by 151 runs in the second Test of five-match series last night, registering their third-ever Test victory at the iconic Lord’s Ground, in London.

After setting a 272-run target for England, Indian bowlers bundled out the hosts for 120 runs in their second innings in the final session of the fifth and last day. For India, Mohammed Siraj picked up four wickets, Jasprit Bumrah finished with three wickets while Ishant Sharma scalped two and Mohammed Shami took one wicket.

Earlier, the Virat Kohli-led side declared their second innings at 298 for eight to set England 272 runs to win in 60 overs. Ajinkya Rahane scored 61 runs while Cheteshwar Pujara contributed 45 runs in the

Indian innings.

In their first innings, England made 391 in response to India’s 364.

With the win at Lord’s, Skipper Virat Kohli has become the third Indian captain after Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni to win a Test at this iconic venue known as the Home of Cricket. Kapil Dev achieved the feat for the first time in 1986 before Dhoni’s side ended India’s 28-year wait in 2014. With the win, India are now leading the series, by 1-0.

India and England drew the first Test at Trent Bridge earlier this month after rain washed out the final day. The two sides will now enjoy a short break before regrouping for the third match at Leeds from the 25th of this month.
