Colombo: India thrashed Sri Lanka by 38 runs in the first T20 International of the three-match series at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo last night.
Put into bat first, India smashed 164 for five in the stipulated 20 overs, riding on Suryakumar Yadav’s swashbuckling fifty off 34 balls and skipper Shikhar Dhawan’s scintillating 46 off 36. For hosts, Dushmantha Chameera and Wanindu Hasaranga picked two wickets
each.
Sri Lanka were bundled out for 126 in 18.3 overs as Bhuvneshwar Kumar scalped four wickets and Deepak Chahar picked up a couple. For the hosts Charith Asalanka was the top-scorer with 44 off 26 balls.
The second T20 will be played on Tuesday at 8:00pm at the same venue. Earlier, India won the three-match ODI series 2-1 against the hosts.
