India, on Thursday, August 3, became the second team to play 200 T20Is. The Men in Blue achieved the feat in the opening T20I against the West Indies at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad.
The first team to play as many T20Is was Pakistan. Back in September 2022, Pakistan achieved the feat during the fourth T20I of their seven-match series against England at the National Stadium in Karachi. The hosts won the match by three runs to make it 2-2 in the series.
It remains to be seen if Hardik Pandya’s India can make their 200th match a memorable one like their neighbours Pakistan.
Among the top ranked teams, India have the best win-loss ratio of 2.015, having won 127 out of 199 matches. They lost 63 matches, tied four matches, while five matches
did not produce a result.
Pakistan, on the other hand, have won 134 out of 223 matches with a win-loss ratio of 1.675.
India are also nearing Pakistan’s tally of wins in the T20 format. If India win the series against the West Indies 5-0, they will only be two victories short of catching up with Pakistan’s tally.
India will go into the series after a morale-boosting victory by 200 runs against the Caribbean team two days ago. The triumph also helped them seal the series 2-1. Prior to that, the visiting team won the Test series 1-0.
India are currently the No.1 ranked team in T20Is with 267 rating points, eight more than that of second-placed England. New Zealand, Pakistan and South Africa are third, fourth and fifth respectively.
