Former captain Kapil Dev feels that India is ready to play and win the World Cup after their success in the Asia Cup 2023.
India's cricket team has been making significant strides in preparation for the upcoming ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023.
In the Asia Cup final, India displayed an exceptional performance against Sri Lanka, winning by 10 wickets. Sri Lanka, after opting to bat first, were bowled out for just 50 runs in 15.2 overs, with Mohammed Siraj running through their batting line-up.
The team will begin their World Cup campaign against Australia on October 08, 2023, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
Speaking to PTI, Kapil said that reaching the top four would be the first thing India would need to do and then the rest would be about luck. The former captain said that India should play passionately and enjoy themselves during the tournament.
"I think if we can come in top four, that is more
important and then it will be about stroke of luck and everything," Kapil said on the sidelines of the launch of the third edition of J&K Open to be held at Jammu Tawi Golf Course from October 4 to 7.
"We can't say right now that we are favourites, of course our team is very good. Heart says something else, mind says no we have to work very hard. I know our team, I don't know about other teams, so I would say it is unfair for me to give a blank answer.
"...as far as India team is concerned, it is ready to play and win the championships...they should play passionately, enjoy themselves."
Kapil also hailed the performance by India in the Asia Cup final but admitted that as a spectator, he was expecting a tighter match.
"...what a fantastic cricket played! As a cricketer I would like to see much close games but as a player, I feel bowl them out for 30 and win. As a spectator, probably a little close matches would have been better," said Kapil.
