Sharjah: In the ICC Men's T-20 Cricket World Cup, Pakistan thrashed Scotland by 72 runs in their final Super-12 match in Group 2 at Sharjah last night. Chasing a victory target of 190 runs set by Pakistan, Scotland made 117 for six wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. For Scotland, Richie Berrington with 54 not out was the top scorer.
For Pakistan, Shadab Khan took two wickets while Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf and Hasan Ali claimed one wicket each.
Earlier, batting first, Pakistan made 189 for the loss of four wickets with skipper Babar Azam scoring 66 and Shoaib Malik scoring 54 not out. Shoaib Malik was declared the Man of the Match. For Scotland, Chris Greaves took two wickets while Safyaan
Sharif and Hamza Tahir claimed one wicket each.
In an earlier match, New Zealand booked their spot in the semifinals after registering an eight-wicket win over Afghanistan in their last group match of the tournament at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
With this, India and Afghanistan are both out of the race for the next round. However, the Virat Kohli-led side has one more game left in the tournament against Namibia today.
The result of the India-Namibia game will make no change in India's fate in the ongoing tournament. This is also the first time since 2012 that India failed to make it to the semi-finals of any ICC event.
