Sri Lanka managed to eke out a 2-run win over a charged-up Afghanistan in the final group game to join India, Pakistan and Bangladesh in the Super 4s stage of the ongoing ACC Asia Cup 2023.
The Super Four stage of the Asia Cup 2023, to be held in Pakistan and Sri Lanka, will kick off on Wednesday in Lahore. There will be six matches in the Super 4. It will be followed by the final on September 17, scheduled to be held in Colombo.
INDIA AND PAKISTAN (GROUP A)
Pakistan finished as table-toppers in group A and qualified for the Super 4 after defeating Nepal in the season opener and earning a point from its washout against India. India then proceeded to the next round after it thrashed Nepal by 10 wickets in a rain-curtailed match. Pakistan finished first in Group A (A1), while India finished second in Group A (A2).
BANGLADESH AND SRI LANKA (GROUP B)
Sri Lanka began its campaign
in Pallekele with a five-wicket victory over Bangladesh. However, Bangladesh came back strongly to defeat Afghanistan by a massive 89-run margin to advance to the Super 4s stage. Sri Lanka then avoided a heroic batting effort from Mohammed Nabi to beat Afghanistan by 2 runs in the final group match in Lahore and storm into the Super 4s as table-toppers of Group B.
