Former Indian women's team captain Bengal's Jhulan Goswami was felicitated by Sourav Ganguly at Kolkata's Netaji Indoor stadium by Cricket Association of Bengal on Saturday, 29 October. CAB celebrated its Annual Prize Distribution ceremony on Saturday where Jhulan was given award for her exceptional service to women's cricket.
Jhulan Goswami received a special award at the function alongside India all-rounder Deepti Sharma and wicket-keeper Richa Ghosh. Deepti was felicitated for the amazing Asia Cup win of Indian women's team and their silver finish at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022.
Former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly handed over the awards to the players and hailed Jhulan Goswami as once in a generation talent.
"Jhulan Goswami is
one of her kind. Players like her come once in a while. She is an absolute legend. I congratulate her on this occasion."
After getting the award Jhulan said, "It's an honor getting a special award from CAB. I always have always been a fighter. But sports persons do not play for whole life. It's a good career I am happy with it."
Apart from felicitating India players, Lifetime Achievement awards were given to former India cricketers. Former India cricketer Ashok Malhotra, Sambaran Banerjee and Uday Bhanu Banerjee were recognised for their service in Indian cricket.
Apart from this CAB took a step to felicitate women''s cricketer as well. Gargi Banerjee, Mrs. Mithu Mukherjee, and Lopamudra Bhattacharjee were bestowed with lifetime achievement awards.
