India, on Wednesday, February 1, registered their biggest win in T20Is by a margin of runs after beating New Zealand by 168 runs in the third and final T20I at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

India’s previous biggest win was against Ireland by a margin of 143 runs at The Village in Dublin back in June 2018. The win against the Kiwis was also India’s biggest win in T20Is at home. It was also the third time that India won a T20I by a margin of above 100.

With the win, India also won the series 2-1 and kept intact their winning streak in bilateral T20I series at home since their loss to Australia in 2019. The other win came against Afghanistan by 101 runs in the Asia Cup 2022 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

After opting to bat first, India racked up a massive score of 234 for the loss of four wickets in 20 overs. Shubman Gill was the

star of the show after he scored his maiden T20I hundred off 54 balls.

Gill became the seventh Indian after Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Deepak Hooda, Suryakumar Yadav, Suresh Raina and Harmanpreet Kaur to score hundreds for India in T20Is.

The right-handed Gill also broke Virat Kohli’s record of the highest individual score by an Indian batter in T20Is. Apart from Gill, Rahul Tripathi also impressed with 44 runs.

The Black Caps completely messed up in their run-chase and were bowled out for 66 in 12.1 overs. Hardik Pandya was the pick of the Indian bowlers after he finished with figures of 4-0-16-4.

The other fast bowlers, Arshdeep Singh, Umran Malik and Shivam Mavi picked up two wickets apiece. Barring Daryl Mitchell, who scored an unbeaten 35 off 25 balls with one four and three sixes, none of the Black Caps’ batters made an impact.
